Installing ScanTools for the first time:

To install a new ScanTools system, use the provided Setup program.
At the DOS prompt enter the following command:

A:SETUP (or B:SETUP if the diskette is in drive B)

Press ENTER. Follow the instructions of the Setup program.

Following installation, be sure to configure the
"Default data path" to specify the data directory created by
Setup (or any other directory you want). To do this, follow
        these steps:

            1. Change to the directory where ScanTools was installed.
For example, type "C:" then "CD \TOOLS"
            2. Type "TOOLS" to start ScanTools
            3. Select the "Install/Change Configuration" option
            4. Select the "Change system parameters" option
            5. Change the "Default data path" to "C:\TOOLS\DATA"

Failure to do this will cause all profiles and datafiles to be
        stored in the root directory.

ScanTools makes no changes to the CONFIG.SYS or AUTOEXEC.BAT files.

    Upgrading an existing ScanTools system:

If you have an existing ScanTools system, use the installation
manager within ScanTools to upgrade your current system.
Simply start your existing ScanTools, select "Install/Change
Configuration", then "Install new application". Follow the
        directions on the screen.

All 2.0A and above applications, conversion profiles and edit
profiles are automatically upgraded to be compatible with this
release when they are used for the first time.

    Notes:

ScanTools Release 2.8 requires more free system memory (550Kb)
than any previous release of ScanTools. It may be necessary to
free up more memory when using ScanTools 2.8.

Terminate and Stay Resident (TSR) programs should not be loaded
when using ScanTools. Out of memory errors or other problems may
        result.

NCS recommends that Microsoft SmartDrive not be used with ScanTools
Release 2.7a or lower. At a minimum write behind caching should be
disabled. Release 2.7b and higher are fully compatible with
        SmartDrive.

Because of the memory requirements and use of high speed
communications, ScanTools should not be executed from Windows or a
shell program, such as the DOS shell. If you wish to execute from
the Windows environment, NCS recommends our ScanTools for Windows
        product.
